I always knew that I wanted to get into cosmetology and as my journey began I realized that there is so much more help for college students opposed to trades. My guidance counselor office at the high school was all about helping you get to college, but when you say “I want to do hair”, the blank stares begin.

Luckily, there are several growing organizations that want to contribute to the cosmetology profession and the field is only getting bigger!

If you’re not sure where you want to go or what you’d like to do, that’s okay! Beauty Schools Directory  has a list of over 1,000 beauty schools as well as featured schools for you to explore.

One of my best pieces of advice in looking for a school or beauty trade is to know what you want to do with it before you go.

Talk to people in the field, ask to shadow at a salon, massage center, or barber shop. Getting a feel for the industry will help you to find your niche and start your career!

Hi Paige! I know how difficult it is to be 17 and going to school! I was 17 when I went to college and there isn’t a whole lot of consideration for people who are “underage” and starting their education. Are you already enrolled and does your school expect money up front or offer a payment plan? When do you turn 18 and have you applied for FAFSA? Let me know and I can help you from there!

Hi Erika, My name is Paige and starting this January I will be attending Capri Institute located in Oak Forest. I’ve been looking AND looking for more and more scholarships and sadly have only been able to find a few that I am qualified for. I’m only 17 and it seems that when I find a scholarship that would be great for me, it either has an age requirement of 18 and older or I am past the deadline. :/ I was wondering if you could help me with my problem!
    Sincerely, Paige.
