Some of us know when it’s time for a makeover, and some don’t. That’s okay- I don’t like to use the term “makeover” very much because it means that nothing has been changed in so long that you feel awful when you look in the mirror…which triggers the desire for a total overhaul.

I think this is unrealistic because most people are very set in their ways. If you go crazy and buy a bunch of new makeup that you don’t know how to apply along with a cut and color that you may or may not maintain/know how to style then you’re only going to feel better for a short period of time.

It’s better to make small changes- you may find that’s all you need!

When It’s Time For A Makeover

Here’s a great Q&A reference from a reader:

I’ve never really done myself up or worry about my hair, makeup etc. Well, I’ve been working on losing weight and I have gone from 200 lbs to 170 lbs. I still got a lot of work and need to lose another 35 pounds. But I’ve decided that for 2013 I want to do my makeup, hair and clothes.

I’ve gone from a size 20 to a size 12. So, in looking for how to guides I came up on your blog and I have to admit that I love it!

Thanks for the great information. I wish you was in Fl I would def have you as my stylist. Please keep up the great job! Please keep on posting for beginners like me so we can learn how to be a better me.

I want to start feeling better about myself. How can I send you a picture of myself so you can give me any advise about changing my hair cut, style and color. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for everything, Hellyn

Dear Hellyn,
Here are a few everyday tips that make me feel great, and the better you feel the faster you will get to your goal! The closer you get to your goal the hair, makeup, and accessories will slowly become more and more natural…trust me!

I remember when I was 30 pounds lighter and everything seemed to come together so easily when picking an outfit and throwing on some makeup!

1) Sunless Tanner or Shimmer Moisturizer–  I’ll be doing a post with tips on this soon. Here’s a sneak peak…my favorites are Banana Boat Summer Color and L’Oreal Sublime Bronze.

2)Hard Candy Lip Color/Tinted Moisturizer– They sell it at Wal-Mart and I hate to admit that my almost 19 year old sister just got me hooked on it. We both have “vampire bite” it gives just enough pinkish watermelon tint and doesn’t clump on your lips! I love it because it’s a great everyday spruce up for your lips for people like you and I that don’t wear much. I hate glosses and lipsticks FYI…the only lipstick I’ll use is the bare minerals peony stick, and it can clump.

3) Olay Total Effects 7 In 1 Tone Correcting Moisturizer with Sunscreen– I get medium to deep, but they have 3 shades and they all can be used on a very broad spectrum in my opinion. I’ve been using it for at least 5 years and when I run out my skin just isn’t the same! I always get compliments when I use it bc it “buffs” the complexion but doesn’t look like makeup does on your skin.

4) Mascara & Muted vanilla/taupe shade eyeshadow– If i’m just sprucing up really quick I will at least do mascara with a light eyeshadow dusting to freshen and brighten up the eyes. I use “Satin Ribbon” by bare minerals and I love it! I like eyeshadow palettes for some things but the mineral eyeshadow gives a softer effect! I’ll let you know which brush I use with it in another email!

You can send any consultation photos to me and I will gladly give you some recommendations for doing your hair and makeup! I know how tough it can be and I will help you where I can!
