There are SO many different mousses out there, so it can be hard to find the one that’s right for you. I’ve tried them all, and some are amazing while others are too sticky!

Before I went to cosmetology school mousse was something that I only used for “scrunching” my wavy hair. Now I use it all the time and on lots of my clients. It’s great for adding volume and creating body/texture in the hair.

So, here are a few of the best mousse products that will give you more volume, body, and texture! Mousse should be applied to somewhat wet or lightly towel-dried hair, and then blow dried with a round brush for best results.

Depending on your hair texture…you may also use mousse to enhance curls or waves and let your hair air dry. Remember that when your hair air dries it will not have as much volume as when it is blow dried.

*If you’re not comfortable blow drying with a round brush…just flip your head upside down and dry the roots a bit. This is NOT the proper way to blow dry your hair! You should not do this and direct the dryer at your ends because that can promote split-ends and damage.

Redken Guts Spray Foam is!Level 10 on the Redken scale for hold…Guts is a best-selling spray root booster. I know that sounds odd, because most people use it as a mousse product. It’s one of those in-betweeners, but I prefer to use it as a mousse because it’s a little heavy as a root booster(unless you have thick hair).

This volumizing mousse works best when applied to wet damp or towel-dried hair. Here are a few highlights about this product:

• It gives the hair root volume while adding softness.
• Provides natural looking texture.
• Results will vary and depend on whether or not you blow-dry or air-dry your hair.

*This mousse pairs well with Redken’s Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk. It’s comparable to the recently discontinued product- Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Serum, so if you liked Glass 01, then you’ll love the polishing milk!

Just apply a very tiny amount to your ends after you’ve applied the mousse. This will give your hair just enough shine and keep your ends in-tact!

This is a light weight treatment styling mousse that adds a lot of body. I almost always use at least 3 products when I style my hair: 1 for volume at the root, 1 for body/frizz, and 1 for finishing/hold. On days that I use a 4th product I apply Alterna’s Rapid Repair Spray to my ends. It only takes a few sprays, it smells great, and it adds shine/moisture without making my hair look greasy.

If you’re looking for additional volume you can also use Powder Fix by ColorProof at the root. Be very sparing when applying this volumizing powder! It should be applied after you blow dry, but before you use a finishing spray.

*This mousse pairs well with Pureology’s Colour Stylist Root Lift Spray! You may notice that both products are called a “mousse”. Don’t let this confuse you! I use these two products together all the time and they are VERY different. The mousse is a nice silky foam, and the root lift spray is more of a wet foam. You can apply the products in any order, but I prefer to spray the roots with a root booster then apply the mousse.

For best results: Shake well, then apply from roots to ends. Blow dry to increase volume. Layer more foam to increase hold and texture. Here are a few highlights about this product:

*This mousse pairs well with UNITE’s Boosta Spray. It’s a volumizing spray that’s light and it smells great! Boosta spray is perfect for people with fine hair, or hair that gets oily with ease. It also doubles as a UV protector and texturizer!
