Surprised? Well, so was I…the first time. I get hate comments on beauty posts all the time, but the last one was more than a bit harsh. This comment wasn’t a lengthy rant by a reader with opposing views, but a rather short and hateful one.

It left me wondering, “Why do people take the time to write a hateful message to a stranger?”. If I read something I don’t like…I simply move on.

“Why do people take the time to write a hateful message to a stranger?”

Not only was it a hate comment, but this time they want me to just die. I know, it sounds harsh, and it’s not something I would normally share or write about. I usually approve all comments(unless they contain inappropriate language or the comment is from a “repeat offender” that just won’t give up). That’s tough for me because this is not a controversial blog.

This website is meant to provide readers with a hairstylists’ honest opinion. I started it back in 2011 because I found myself answering a lot of the same questions for different clients. After years behind the chair I was still in awe at the misconceptions and misinformation floating around in the beauty industry.

I’d even learned that some hairstylists lie to their clients…probably because they just don’t feel like explaining something or they’re tired of being in the profession. Those stylists make it difficult for people like me who are passionate about what I do, so the blog was born.

Here’s the most recent hate comment on a beauty post that I received:

This comment was in response to my post, What Happens When You Use Pantene. I know, there are a lot of you out there that use it and love it. That’s fine, if you don’t want to use better shampoo, then don’t. I share my knowledge about products because some people have hair issues that they can’t resolve. Using Pantene shampoo will have a different effect on everyone’s hair, so if it doesn’t pertain to you…just move on.

If you would like to see other hate comments on beauty posts, check out 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Use Box Color…it’s my most “controversial” post since 2011 and lots of people have something to say about it!

I wanted to share this with everyone because I think it’s crazy that I get so many hate comments on beauty posts, death threats, harsh words, demeaning rants, etc. The world is a different place than it used to be, and it’s only getting worse. Being nice, even just a little, can be contagious….and so can hate. I hope that those of you who waste your time being mad about my opinion on a brand of shampoo will find a way to channel that unnecessary energy to something that actually matters(like saving the elephants or something).
