should-i-do-my-own-hairNow that salons are temporarily closed…should I do my own hair?

There’s a lot of chatter circling this topic right now, and some of you are ready to give it a try while others are a little more cautious.

If you’ve read some of my other posts- you know that I don’t recommend doing your own hair at home, but circumstances have changed.

I’m going to give you a little perspective so you can make your own decisions, and then some advice for those of you that do decide to go for it. This isn’t going to be the kind of post you’re expecting, but remember that neither is the world we are living in right now.

Should I Do My Own Hair?

Is it really THAT important right now?

Think about it. You’re not going anywhere for a while. There aren’t any social events to attend, most of us are working from home, and the only people we see on a daily basis are family.

Now is a great time to take a break. I was thinking about this when it comes to my skin- I have no reason to put on makeup everyday, so this is a really good time to reset and give my skin a break. The effects with skin vs. hair are very different, but it’s all relative when you think about it.

Should I risk my health to buy beauty products?

I don’t think a box of hair color is worth the risk of potentially infecting yourself or your family members with COVID-19. Some of you know the dangers of the virus, and some of you think it’s not that big of a deal…well it is.

One of my family members is in a hospital in Michigan right now. He’s 29, a very fit and healthy police detective, and he’s been fighting for his life for a week now. He’s currently on a ventilator(90%), has a feeding tube, and they really don’t know which way this is going to go.

So…no, I don’t think it’s worth the risk. Imagine how his sister would feel if she just had to go get some hair color, and unknowingly infected him. We don’t know how he got it as the rest of his immediate family is okay right now, but it can happen to anyone and it doesn’t take much.

What can I do right now?

You can take care of yourself…and your hair. Exercise, eat right, get on a regular skincare regimen if your life has otherwise been too busy until now. This is a great time to build some good habits and focus on other things.

Now is also a great time to practice those hairstyles you want to master…you know…the ones that leave you frustrated when they don’t quite work out!

If you already have the product/supplies you need to do your hair at home- please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the process. While I’m against at-home hair color experimentation, I know that we’re all going a little stir crazy and you’re going to do it anyways. I’ll gladly give some advice and help you prevent a hair color disaster!

Before some of y’all get all crazy in my comment section- you should know that this post is meant to stress the importance of following stay-at-home orders rather than risking your health for some hair color. It’s just not that important right now.
